Chibi Wings Aka Heart, 2019
Multi-plate hard and soft ground etching and aquatint
Sheet: 38 x 26 inches
Printed and published by the artist
Edition: 15
My prints explore the complex relationship of paper, ink and etched plates to describe my thought, as well as the relationship which occurs between figures and space to express other human experiences. The title Chibi Wings Aka Heart has a mixture of English and Japanese. Chibi means small in Japanese. Aka could be interpreted as A.K.A., “also known as”, but also Aka meaning “red” in Japanese. The images bear a slight resemblance to traditional Japanese Ukiyo-e prints, while also expressing contemporary aspects of the Western Hemisphere.
