My work is inspired by symbolism and dreams. In creating Fabula Mirabilis, I draw on the idea of creating my own “fabula” or story. Jorge Luis Borges compiled a “Book of Imaginary Beings” describing magical and mythical creatures from literature, history, and imagination and Baron von Munchhausen elaborated fabulous, extravagant stories about himself in the 19 century. I created my own mythical being, part Hecate and part Medusa, a composite with three heads much like Cerberus with a headdress embellished with serpents. My Fabula, of a female deity depicts a guardian of realms outside and beyond the world of the living.
